Michael Jackson – Devoted Jehovah’s Witness

While Michael Jackson may not have matched the conventional image of a Jehovah’s Witness follower, his commitment to his faith was unwavering. He displayed this dedication by including a title card in the iconic music video for his hit song “Thriller,” stating, “Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress that this film in no way endorses a belief in the occult.”

His expressions of faith extended beyond this statement. Despite his rapid rise to celebrity status, Jackson remained dedicated to his faith and was known to engage in door-to-door evangelism for the Jehovah’s Witness church well into the 1980s. However, as the pressures of fame mounted, his involvement with the church lessened. He shared, “When circumstances made it increasingly complex for me to attend, I was comforted by the belief that God exists in my heart, and in music and in beauty.” This sentiment reflected his personal relationship with his faith and how it intertwined with his artistic endeavors.
